Sensor intelligence beyond the coverage map

A sensor is most valuable when its information reaches someone who can act. Yet the places that need monitoring are often the places conventional communications struggle to serve: a remote farm, an island habitat, a riverbank, a basement plant room or a water monitoring point beneath the surface.

Tigertek demonstrates earlier fault visibility, fewer unnecessary site visits and continued access to useful information during external communications outages.

A new way to connect difficult locations with intelligence and encrypted data.

Servers, cloud platforms, gateways and apps become choices around the deployment. Customers decide how their information connects to the wider world.

Rural urban and underwater connections

In rural locations, radio links can connect scattered assets without relying on mobile reception at every sensor. In an urban cityscape, a carefully designed network can carry small data packets between suitable relay points, around a site or across a collection of buildings.

Underwater sensing needs a different first step. Water strongly attenuates conventional LoRa radio, particularly salt water. A submerged sensor can connect by cable to a surface unit, or use another suitable underwater communications method before its data enters the radio network. The same principle supports reservoirs, river installations, tanks and coastal monitoring.

Our approach is to match the communications path to the location. Range and reliability depend on the surroundings, antenna placement, power and network design. Once a suitable path exists, a difficult location can become a useful source of information.

What LoRa mesh makes possible

LoRa is a radio technology designed for long-range communication with low power consumption. Mesh networking adds the ability to relay messages through intermediate radio nodes. Together, they can extend a local network beyond a single direct link, with no internet connection required for local radio exchange.

This suits sensor readings, equipment status and compact alerts. Two-way communication can also carry acknowledgements or configuration messages where the connected device supports them. LoRa mesh is distinct from the conventional LoRaWAN network architecture, and capacity must suit the number of devices, message size and reporting frequency.

Wildlife and conservation

Our work on Rathlin Island for RSPB has reinforced the importance of making environmental information useful in remote places. Conservation applications can include habitat temperature and humidity, water conditions, equipment status and access events. Appropriate sensors and installation methods can support observations while limiting unnecessary visits to sensitive sites.

Low power operation and local access are particularly relevant to island environments and wildlife reserves. Monitoring plans should account for animal welfare, disturbance and the practicalities of maintaining equipment.

Rivers water and drainage

River sensor communications support can connect bank-side equipment and suitably interfaced submerged probes to onward reporting systems. Water-level changes, rainfall and drainage conditions can help operators decide when an inspection is needed.

With compatible third-party instruments, applications can extend to pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen and turbidity. Reliable communications help deliver those measurements. The quality and meaning of each reading still depend on the instrument, calibration and installation.

Farming, agriculture and agritech

Farms combine extensive land, scattered equipment and variable reception. Tigertek can bring pressure, temperature, humidity and energy information together for irrigation, livestock buildings, pumps, storage and renewable energy equipment.

Suitable third-party sensors can add soil moisture, rainfall, tank level or other agritech measurements. A farmer can receive selected messages through available links, helping identify a stalled pump, an unusual storage condition or equipment drawing power unexpectedly.

Buildings energy and industry

Our own sensor range includes liquid and non-liquid pressure sensors, temperature and humidity sensors, and clip-on and pulse energy sensing. These support applications around HVAC, heat pumps, solar installations, industrial equipment and environmental monitoring.

Across factories, commercial estates, construction sites, utilities and transport facilities, readings can help teams investigate faults sooner and prepare better for a visit. Further applications include food storage, refrigeration and logistics, using instruments suited to the conditions and measurement requirements.

Health safety and security

In healthcare premises, temperature, humidity, energy and equipment monitoring can support facilities teams, storage conditions and maintenance planning. Clinical measurements require appropriate validated medical devices and integrations.

Environmental monitoring does not replace clinical assessment.

For health and safety, suitable sensors can report conditions or equipment events that require attention. Regulated safety functions need the appropriate certified systems. CO and CO2 are outside Tigertek’s own sensor range described here, with suitably certified third-party instruments considered where an application requires them.

Security applications can include opening and closing events for doors, gates, cabinets and access hatches, using compatible contact sensors. These can provide time-stamped records, help verify activity and draw attention to an unexpected opening. Local intelligence supports the operator’s response while customers retain control over onward data access.

Intelligence at the edge

The commercial opportunity spans OEMs, equipment suppliers, service businesses and asset owners. Tigertek can become part of a new product or support an agreed retrofit, connecting relevant sensors to communications routes the customer chooses.

The benefits are concrete: reveal a fault sooner, avoid a visit that adds no value and keep useful local information available when an external connection fails. Savings depend on the site and its operating costs, with customer measurements providing the evidence.

Tigertek gives sensor data a practical purpose. From wildlife habitats and rivers to farms, buildings and industrial equipment, we are opening new possibilities for secure monitoring.

Tigertek - intelligence at the edge.
