Tigertek wins public sector recognition through Comber Digi Hub

Ards and North Down Borough Council puts environmental sensing at the heart of practical innovation
Tigertek’s selection to deliver an IoT sensing and monitoring solution for Ards and North Down Borough Council demonstrates the strength of its offer to the public sector. At Comber Community Centre, its technology supports a Council-led ambition to make smarter building management and environmental awareness visible to the community.
Comber Digi Hub provides a practical setting for that ambition. It brings the green agenda into a familiar public building, where residents, businesses and Council teams can explore how connected systems help people understand the use of energy, space and resources.
A Council prepared to champion useful technology
The Council describes Comber as an IoT exemplar within the Mini Digi Hubs programme, supported by PEACEPLUS and managed at programme level by the Special EU Programmes Body. Its public-facing vision combines sensors, live dashboards and digital engagement.
This is an attractive public sector partnership for Tigertek because the purpose is clear. The technology must serve building management while also making its value understandable to people who may be considering similar applications in their own organisations.
The Council’s approach gives environmental innovation a practical point of reference. Visitors can relate the information to the building around them and consider how measurement can support better decisions.
Tigertek delivers an integrated response
Tigertek’s contracted scope connects site survey, network design, installation and maintenance with environmental monitoring, electricity monitoring, movement and door sensing, people counting and oil tank monitoring.
A LoRaWAN network carries the readings, while a dashboard brings them together for interpretation. This gives the project a coherent monitoring structure across different requirements within the premises.
The work demonstrates an important strength in Tigertek’s offer: the ability to combine the equipment, communications and monitoring elements of a brief. Public bodies can draw on a specialist capable of understanding the site and delivering the connected system it requires.
Connecting the green agenda with operational decisions
Building managers need to understand when energy is being used, how spaces are occupied and whether conditions match expectations. Monitoring gives them a basis for investigating patterns and deciding where attention is needed.
At Comber, those same readings also support the demonstration role of the hub. A local business can consider how environmental or electricity monitoring might apply to its premises. A public service team can explore how connected information could support the management of another facility.
This combines operational relevance with community learning. The Council champions technology by making its purpose visible, and Tigertek supplies the specialist sensing and communications contribution behind that demonstration.
A strong reference for wider public sector work
Winning the Comber assignment establishes Tigertek’s ability to respond to a public sector requirement that spans several technologies and applications. The project provides a concrete reference for discussions with councils, community facilities and other public estate operators.
Its wider relevance lies in the approach: understand the building, identify the information that matters, connect suitable devices and make the readings accessible. The same disciplines can support a range of public buildings, with each solution designed around its own needs.
Tigertek is proud to work with Ards and North Down Borough Council on a project that brings environmental ambition, practical technology and public benefit together.
